EP001: The Introduction
“Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it … he who doesn't … pays it.” ― Albert Einstein.
When genius speaks, we shut up and assume they are right. Never have we taken the time to question a genius. But when we do, we usually do not have a way to proving or disproving them. Well, he is a genius, but cannot a genius make mistakes? Where does compound interest help in all this? How does it apply to us and how is it is relevant to a Finance Newsletter?
While we might look up to these over achievers, we ought to question everything and take assumptions that we can prove or disprove as our only answer. If we do not have any proof, we do not have an answer. You see, as humans with limited time, we will need to find closure for all the things we can search for. Especially when it comes to the topic of money, which dictates most of our waking life.
The Goal:
We, at whatfin, have one and only one goal – Money will NOT dictate our lives, WE will dictate money. “What do you mean?” Money will always dictate our lives. We think that you just haven’t found how much money you will need to start dictating money. The idea of this newsletter is to realize that goal, work towards it. Later, help similar people achieve the similar goals.
What does it look like? How do we get there? What is in it for us? Let us not be that impatient. We will get answers for each of them. The first line of thought is to get us all on the same page.
While there are 1000s of people with an online success stories, and another 1000 spaces to be in, it is difficult to pinpoint which one of it will stay in the long run and which will sustain the test of time. The focus is to be concentrated around things that work and will work with minute variations over time. We’ll divided this into 3 categories.
Risky
Impossible
Annoying
We will take up things which are not the norm. Risky is dangerous for your future but also has the highest rewards. Impossible is where the goal is impossible but we’d still like to try. Annoying is easy but it is just monotonous enough to make us not like it.
The newsletter:
We will come in every month with a simple goal in mind, this is going to be different from your general newsletters that force information on your and you will have to comply. Action plans are very important goals. Please follow along. The most difficult part of getting something done, is getting started. It took us 3 months to get started on this simple newsletter. So, we understand your pain.
The Audience:
While we talk about helping you achieve your goals and so on. You will need help from your family while you embark on this journey. If you have someone, who isn’t yourself, to look after your money / process it is highly recommended that you read this newsletter along with them.
The Baseline:
Setting the baseline for anything is really hard. For the first few months, we are going to concentrate on stocks and earn money from there on out. You can do this from home without the need of high capital. The options option will work only after you reach $25,000 in capital, so please do not try any of the options without having $25,000 in capital. Hence, we will keep the baseline for stocks at S&P500. Anything below that, is none of our concern. (yes, we will back test, open a 1,000$ portfolio on Robinhood to make sure).
Since this was our first newsletter, we just wanted to induce ourselves and talk about an idea. The next iteration of the newsletter will aim to be a bit more concrete. We are trying to make these newsletters not dependent on the previous ones but for the ones who are following us since the start, you will have the advantage of inside jokes, we promise.
The Thanks:
This is the first post of the series, so please bear with us. It will only get better from here. I thank you for subscribing to this newsletter. Please feel free to reach out to us over [email protected] or simply replying to this email.
